Tuition-free "Mathlete Club" is starting at 3 PM on Tuesdays!!
 (9/19/2009)
A new Mathlete Club is coming! Starting September 29th, a one hour Mathlete Club will be conducted on Tuesdays from 3 PM to 4 PM. No additional fee is required for IQ Abacus students, but all students will need to sign a "contract" to make a serious commitment to stay.

The Mathlete Club is mainly for students possessing math levels at 6th Grade and above and targeting at AMC8 and MATHCOUNTS competitions.

Mark your calendar! On Tuesday, 10/6, Joshua Brakensiek, an 8th grade mathematician, and his coach, Pam Woodbury, are coming for a visit and a friendly competition!

Mrs. Woodbury has been coaching MATHCOUNTS for 10 years. Her team has always had at least one person advance to the state level, and 7 of the years they had a complete team participating at the State competition. She was the AZ state coach in 2006 and again in 2007. She has also had the top student at state multiple times. In addition, she coached Math Olympiads for 4th-6th graders for 10 years. "Math Olympiads" is a great way to prepare kids for MATHCOUNTS.

Josh participated in the National MATHCOUNTS competition in 2008 and 2009 when he was in 6th and 7th grades, respectively. When he was in 6th grade, he placed 14th nationally. He will do some countdown runs with our mathletes and share his experiences.

To get a flavor of the MATHCOUNTS competition, please watch this video.

To sit in the "Mathlete Club", you must sign a contract with Ms. Chiou before Monday, September 28. October 6th at 3 PM will be an "eye-opening" experience. Do not miss it out!!

The "Mathlete Club" is a voluntary service from IQ Abacus. It is subject to change and/or cancellation with a prior notice.
