Enhance your Children English Reading/Writing

IQ Abacus Math & Language School is now offering a new program, English Reading & Writing, for G1~6 students. Teacher will design weekly stories to be studied in depth through comprehension exercises, learning of new vocabulary, development of the spelling abilities, and writing assignments. Periodical writing lessons will focus especially on writing, such as writing a letter , knowing the different parts and types of books and writing a short story and writing a longer story and a poem.

The goal is to develop strong readers, writers, communicators, and thinkers based on these guiding principles. It is based on the philosophy that students learn best when there is a balance between listening, speaking, reading and writing. Lessons are taught using a variety of integrated, hands-on activities:

  • Teachers read aloud to children sharing excellent literature modeling literary language.
  • Students and teachers read together from big books, poems, songs or stories.
  • Teachers guide students who have similar reading behaviors during small group reading instruction building on the students strengths.
  • Teachers provide time for independent reading offering students the opportunity to select and enjoy literature that they can read on their own.
  • Teachers demonstrate and model thinking and writing skills in whole group settings.
  • Teachers and students share the pen as they create a piece of writing that becomes a collection of reading materials.
  • Teachers provide mini-lessons for writing, individual conferences for support, and opportunities for refection during writing workshop.
  • Students have the opportunity to write independently while writing in journals or in response to literature.
  • Teachers provide strategies for spelling and word study.
  • Students use technology to publish their literary works

Progress of the student performance will be closely monitored and recorded. Not for long, you should see improvements in your child's reading and writing skills.
